Life is a journey, where everyone and everything you meet may become an unforgettable scenery. The time when I studied for Media and Management Concentration (MMGT) in the Division of Business and Management of BNU-HKBU United International College, is the most beautiful scenery that I will never forget.

I applied to the MMGT programme because UIC has rigorous academic spirit, strong academic atmosphere, and innovative teaching mode. They all touched me deeply. These also encouraged me to return to the University for Further Study after a long gap. Meanwhile, based on future career prospects, I truly hoped that I can strengthen my theoretical knowledge in brand and media through professional and systematic learning and training in universities. The MMGT Programme ‘s international and scientific curriculum design, as well as advanced and complete knowledge system, obviously helped me a lot.

This period of study not only allowed me to gain valuable knowledge, but also gave me an opportunity to know a lot of great teachers and friends. All of this has become my wealth on the path of life. In future, I will bring this precious wealth to better promote the development of Zhuhai’s “Innovation”, "Creativity", and "Entrepreneurship" . I am ready to contribute my part in building Zhuhai into an "Innovation highland" and a "Science and Technology City" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

While working in traditional media industry, I realized the decline of the industry and my own shortcomings. A qualified host not only needs to have solid knowledge of broadcast and host, but also thinking of the digital transformation of media industry. The Master programme at UIC integrated professional knowledge both domestic and abroad, and helped me dive into relatively comprehensive media field; on the other hand, the program required me to conduct professional analysis of problems in domestic media industry, while providing theoretical guidance and real-life practices for solving industry problems.

The one-year study at UIC is fruitful. First of all, I got to learn professional knowledge and life philosophy from professors from domestic and abroad, as well as elites from all walks of life. Second, the course assessment system is very scientific. it is more like a microcosm of a television program from start to end.Teamwork throughout the course cultivated our leadership and execution skills. Besides, the lively classroom atmosphere and joyful living environment made us feel at home. You will never feel lonely at UIC. Lastly, the courses made me feel happy but nervous---I’m happy because I can master it; I feel nervous because I still have a long way to go.

In the past year, I have mastered more knowledge in communication, and explored my management and coordination skills as a leader. In my current job, I rely on this knowledge and skills to make scientific recommendations and reflections on the development of media industry. In the coming year, I will continue to seek opportunities for further studies in the professional field and I hope to meet UIC again.

The COVID-19 in 2020 disrupted my original plan, which was to study in the UK I got to know the postgraduate programs at UIC through my teacher in undergraduate. I noticed that the program at UIC is similar to my proposed postgraduate program in UK. I also noticed that UIC is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, and has qualified teachers and premium educational resources.

I learnt Radio and TV Editing in my undergraduate, and I have keen interests in media and communication. Meanwhile, management is also one of the fields that I am most interested to learn. The reason why I chose MMGT is that the program has full of opportunities and challenges, and suits my needs for professional development.

For the past year at UIC, I felt the openness and innovation of this liberal arts college. My biggest take-away from the MMGT courses is the in-depth study and discussion of the foundations of communication study. I find this subject quite interesting. During the program, I often had heated discussion with students from different backgrounds, which made me think out of the box and gained more critical thinking skills.

After graduation, I was employed by Gree Electric Appliances, and my job duty is marketing of the international market. The courses that I took like Global Marketing Strategy and Communication Campaign Workshop laid a solid foundation for my current job. All in all, the one-year study in MMGT not only filled up my professional vacancy, but also connected me with lots of great teachers and classmates. All of this becomes valuable asset on my way.

UIC has a very beautiful campus and plentiful learning resources, compared to other universities. It has better study atmosphere and living experience. The dormitories are well equipped with infrastructure like kitchen, self-study rooms, and discussion rooms. They facilitate the whole postgraduate study and life. For example, we can make friends with students from other programs when we do group projects in the discussion rooms, and we can also use this space to relax with roommates when we are free.

In the second semester, I noticed Zhuhai Technician College was recruiting. This is a 5-year junior college and a national high-level technical college. When I went to the interview, I found that the interviewers highly recognized UIC’s education philosophy. One interviewer said that his child also studied at UIC. I secured the offer among many applicants, and ZTC even adjusted teaching schedule for me so that my work and class time did not conflict. In a word, UIC has high reputation and is well recognized. I benefited a lot from this program.

The reason why I chose UIC is its diversification. It practices its motto of “In knowledge and in deeds, unto the whole person” and adheres to the vision of whole person education, while it promotes innovative international mode. Moreover, the postgraduate courses provided by UIC interested me and suited my plan.

During my study, I experienced great learning atmosphere and environment. The teachers encouraged students to keep an open mind. Teaching was not rigid, and evaluation was comprehensive, including group project and presentation, writing plans, etc. These tasks demanded us to pay more attention to teamwork and critical thinking ability. Also, there are various clubs and activities to encourage the development of personal hobbies, and the division will organize regular visits to well-known companies to enhance social practice. These are some examples of the integrated teaching mode at UIC, which is international but also serves local needs.. The school is really beautiful by the way. You can find beautiful black swans on campus.

In UIC, I met friends with common interests and still maintained close relationship with them after graduation. The courses I learned are very useful, like the case study in global marketing strategy and leadership. I use the knowledge frequently in my workplace. I also improved my abilities of making PPT, doing presentation, and acquiring new knowledge. I will always cherish the teachers and friends I met at UIC.

For future career plan, I want to use a saying to express my belief: Love comes from passion, and perseverance comes from love. Since I have strong interest in new media industry, I did internships in many internet companies during my study. I like the promoting and sharing culture of Xiaohongshu, as well as the sharing experience on bilibili. In the short term, I want to use the knowledge that I learned to work in a new media platform. As for long-term plan, I want to get out of my comfort zone and start my own business when I feel ready.

In the one-year postgraduate study, one of the most inspiring things for me is the liberal arts education of UIC. It has excellent study atmosphere and I developed close relationship with teachers and students. The open and international way of teaching allowed us to choose courses that we are interested in, and develop as a whole person.

UIC also offers various activities to enrich our study life. During winter vacation, I joined a school-organized study tour and went to Xishuangbanna of Yunnan Province with my teachers and classmates. It was great memories.

During the study of MMGT, we completed many group projects with the help of our teachers. For example, we made blogs and wrote cases like “The Global Marketing Strategy Research Report of HUAWEI”... I gradually became clearer about my plan thanks to the international courses and helpful teachers at UIC. I will bring along this valuable experience to the field of new media, where I thrive to shine.

I chose UIC because UIC has rich teaching resources as good as HKBU. The whole teaching and living environment are convenient and modern. The canteens serve both Chinese and Western cuisines, which are so delicious. The Graduate School (GS) pays much attention to students’ benefits. For example, UIC offers various academic workshops and provides snacks during breaks. UIC also provides shuttle bus services for students and staff. Teachers always contact famous enterprises nearby who offer visits and internship opportunities for us, which enrich our study experience and expand our horizons.

What impressed me the most is the club activities and the high table dinners organized by UIC, especially the grand welcome dinner for postgraduates in January 2021 by GS. Not only did it have well-prepared shows, but also lucky draw. It helped me relax in the stressful study life, and we felt the warmth of postgraduate family.

In the one-year program, I acquired professional knowledge and broadened my horizons. I will never forget this memorable experience, and I hope I can come back to UIC sometime soon.
