My interests in media and my intention to learn communication theory led me to the postgraduate program at UIC. My undergraduate program was writing and directing in arts. Luckily, it had close connection with communication. This propelled my longing for the media academia and industry, and UIC became my bridge to this field.

Marshall McLuhan once said, “Media are extensions of the human body" Media is always around us, but not really easy to approach. The postgraduate course at UIC undoubtedly helped me walk further into media. The MMGT programme involves a lot of knowledge of both in communication and management, which excited me. But when I really walked into these fields, I found that I knew very little. I may not be able to summarize my study life this year by counting how much knowledge I gained, but I think the knowledge broadened my horizons, and got me re-thinking about the world standing on the platform of the Greater Bay Area. The bitterness and pleasure of knowledge gave me more motivation and a more solid goal. This is my biggest gain at UIC, which is inseparable from the exquisiteness and broadness of this university.

"It's too much to complain, so it's better to keep your eyes open." I always think I'm lucky. The short stay at UIC gave me the opportunity to re-evaluate myself, to understand society, and to find new direction. It calmed me down, allowed me to observe the world and me, and allowed me to learn how to think independently. I may continue to look further, but I really cherish the stay at this station. UIC stopped me from following the crowd and helped me get started with a new path.

Last but not least, I must say I love Zhuhai. This is a city that's just right for me.

I was an undergraduate in Accounting Programme of UIC in 2020. I originally planned to study abroad, however, due to COVID-19 and trouble adapting to online classes, I chose to apply to the Media Management Programme of UIC. I was lucky to get the offer and graduated in 2021with the degree of Master of Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University. The study experience improved my competitiveness. I received the offer from Nanyang Technological University during the study, and I will go to Singapore to continue my second master degree.

UIC provides a stage for students to show themselves, and offers lots of interesting activities like enterprise visits, New Year party, etc. Meanwhile, UIC also encourages us to pursue outstanding academic performance. Teachers at DBM of UIC and the School of Communication and Film of HKBU are pretty kind, and have highly professional attributes.

In such an environment, it is a great honor to achieve a good result. I got good grades thanks to the encouragement of friends and classmates, and we worked hard together to create a motivating learning atmosphere. Different from my undergraduate batch, my postgraduate classmates come from all walks of life and have rich experience. The interaction with them deepened my understanding of in-class and extracurricular knowledge. I also learnt a lot from their life experiences.

Looking back on my five years of study at UIC, I am grateful for this precious opportunity to learn from my knowledgeable teachers and interesting classmates. The study experience of MMGT is my precious spiritual wealth.

Before I studied at UIC, I served as a principle director of variety shows for nearly four years in a film and television production company. During my career, I developed and produced a number of variety TV shows. As my career reached a plateau, I also realized there are so many questions in the industry that puzzled me. With these confusions, I applied to the highly recognized Media Management Programme at UIC.What surprised me was that the learning experience of postgraduate students is completely different from that of undergraduates. Professors not only teach professional knowledge, but also pay more attention to guiding us how to think. We can communicate with professors equally no matter in class or after class. Through these communications I solved my initial confusion, and improved myself on many areas.

Looking back on the postgraduate study experience, besides the professional skills I learnt, I opened my eyes and changed my way of thinking. I believe these improvements will benefit me for a life time.

Learning is a kind of delayed gratification, and it is always the most valuable personal investment no matter how old you are. I truly encourage more students to join UIC, and I believe you will gain more at UIC than you expected.
