The Mentor Caring Programme (MCP) serves as an essential bridge connecting students with BNBU. The MCP is composed of five main components: academic mentors, mentors, faculty coordinators of student affairs, peer mentors (senior students), and current students.
Academic mentors assist first-year students in academic planning, course selection, and offer relevant academic guidance. Mentors are dedicated to concentrating on the daily lives and personal growth of students, offering them the necessary support and assistance for campus life. Faculty Coordinators of Student Affairs play a pivotal role in coordinating various student support resources within the faculty. Their primary responsibility is to track special situations and individual cases, with the aim of providing support for students who need special attention. Peer mentors (senior students) help freshmen adapt to university life quickly by sharing their learning and life experiences.
All freshmen will join an MCP group according to their major, with one faculty member serving as the academic mentor for each group. Academic mentors maintain contact with freshmen through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and emails, understanding their campus life and providing them with help and support. Each MCP group is also assigned 1-2 senior students as "Peer Mentors" to assist mentors in connecting with students, organizing group activities, helping freshmen adapt to the new learning environment, and enhancing freshmen's sense of belonging to BNBU.
In order to allow the mentees to stay in close contact with their academic mentors, the Faculty has launched the “MCP Consultation and Activity Hours” Scheme since Semester 1, 2020-2021. The academic mentors allocate two hours out of their ten consultation hours per week principally to accommodate more frequent, more regular, and more varied interactions with their MCP mentees.
