A ceremony awarding the winners of a Tik Tok short video and vlog competition organised by the Division of Business and Management (DBM) was held on 30 November. More than 300 students participated in the contest, and they made a total of 77 short videos, of which 11 won awards.
At the ceremony, UIC President Prof Tang Tao expressed his appreciation for students' enthusiasm and creativity. UIC Provost Prof Chen Zhi mentioned in his address that being born from innovation, UIC have organised many activities full of vitality and creativity. They look forward to more brilliant works by UIC students.
One of the judges, Ms Liu Boya, the General Manager of the Advertising Department of Beijing Zhongshimingda Cultural Media Co. LTD, mentioned that all the works were very creative, he further explained that the judges comprehensively evaluated the pieces from the aspects of creativity, photography, performance, editing and more.
Dean of DBM Prof Steve Liu Wenbin mentioned that DBM has set up a "new media practice base" in UIC Industrial-University Research Collaboration Centre, allowing students to polish their skills. The base is equipped with a studio, a live broadcast room, a dressing room and advanced media recording and broadcasting hardware. It is open to UIC staff and students.
The creators of the first-prize winning piece "three-quarters of the time" are fourth-year students from Cinema and Television Programme, Liu Xiangran and Chen Luyue. The work tells the story of their college life and experience growing as UICers.
Yu Xuejiao, a fourth-year student majoring in Culture, Creativity and Management Programme, was one of the creators of another first prize work. She said that the competition was an unforgettable experience for her. In their piece, she put unremitting efforts in tackling technical problems and editing films tirelessly.
The first prize work "A semester of David Wang" was completed by eight students from different majors. In this competition, they won not only awards but also profound friendship.
