The China Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM) Activity Group on Financial Technology and Algorithm (planned) held a seminar on blockchain and digital currency in Hefei, Anhui Province on 9 October, and planned to have the first group meeting at UIC, Zhuhai from 20 to 21 November 2021.
The seminar was hosted by Professor Liu Wenbin, Deputy Director of CSIAM Activity Group on Financial Technology and Algorithm (planned) and Dean of UIC's Division of Business and Management (DBM). In addition, four guests delivered presentations on different topics.
Zhou Xin, executive director of the Volatility Institute at NYU Shanghai, presented "Less Is More: Forecasting Bitcoin Volatility Using Deep Learning".
Professor Liu Luchuan, Vice Director of the UIC-WingChain Blockchain Research Centre and Professor at DBM, talked of the macroeconomics of cryptocurrency and policy design.
Then, Professor Deng Qi, a researcher at the UIC-WingChain Blockchain Research Centre, introduced the first Decentralised Autonomous Organisation in America, the American CryptoFed DAO.
Finally, Professor Liu Wenbin, Dean of the Division of Business and Management, gave a presentation about evaluating the performance of funds and a variety of portfolio optimisation models.
Professor Liu Wenbin also went to Hefei No. 7 Middle School to give a science report on "The Application of Big Data in Modern Society". Professor Liu explained big data, machine learning, brain-like computing, and other concepts through many examples in the presentation.
CSIAM Activity Group on Financial Technology and Algorithm (planned) was approved by the Standing Council of CSIAM in April 2021. It is affiliated with UIC, set in the UIC-WingChain Blockchain Research Centre.
The Activity Group on Financial Technology and Algorithm is mainly responsible for the theoretical expansion and application practice of data science in finance and artificial intelligence research and related business. It has decided to hold the first group meeting at UIC from 20 to 21 November 2021.
