On the afternoon of December 1st, Ms. Karmen Yeung, National Head of Private Enterprise of KPMG China, Advisor and Former President of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong (TIHK) and Chairperson of the China Development Committee of TIHK, delivered a lecture on " Tax career leading to a successful life " on UIC campus.
This talk was jointly organized by the Career Development Office and the Division of Business and Management. Before Ms. Yeung’s lecture, Ms. Mei LI, Director of the Career Development Office, gave a welcome speech. Dr. Anthony Liu, ACCT Programme Director, attended the lecture.

Ms. Yeung started her speech by sharing her experience on the career of tax work from four perspectives: every bit of tax work, joys and pains of tax consulting, analysis on the suitability for the job, and the journey to becoming a successful tax accountant.

Then, Ms. Yeung introduced the structure and functions of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong in detail. She explained that the purpose of providing the Chartered Tax Adviser Qualifying Examination (CTA, formerly known as the “Certified Tax Adviser (CTA) Qualifying Examination” until 2021) is to set a benchmark for new entrants to the tax profession, to enhance the confidence of employers in persons holding a tax qualification, to qualify tax professionals a high level of practical competence and to assist taxpayers in fulfilling their tax responsibilities more effectively.
To help students understand the CTA examination, Ms. Yeung further gave an introduction on its syllabuses, programmes and courses, exemption, and enrollment. She also briefly mentioned the registration procedure of becoming a Chartered Tax Adviser as well as and the placement opportunities in Shenzhen. She strongly encouraged students to involved in the tax and the financial industries after graduation.

About Ms. Karmen Yeung
Karmen is the National Head of Private Enterprise of KPMG China. She advises HNWIs and private companies on various tax matters including tax advisory to the owners of a business, the tax-efficient holding and operational structure of a business, wealth investment and family asset protection structure, etc. Karmen has been in the professional field for more than 20 years and is currently working in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). She is very active in advising governments on tax policy to promote a better investment environment in the GBA. She is Advisor and Past President of the TIHK, Chairperson of the China Development Committee of TIHK, Committee of PRD Council of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, etc.
