On April 6th, Mr. Yonghong Shi, the software engineer and technical director of Meta (Facebook), delivered a lecture on "Career, Evaluation, Promotion, and Development of High-tech Companies in the United States" on the UIC campus. Before Mr. Shi’s lecture, Dr. Don Chai, the Program Director of the e-Business Management and Information Systems, gave a welcome speech.

The lecture

Mr. Shi started his speech by sharing his working experience in different high-tech companies and projects in the United States. He introduced Meta’s corporate culture，employee evaluation system, and the promotion path to the audience. In the early stage of a new project, Meta engineers will set their expected indicators for this project, and the project team will evaluate and analyze the engineers according to the achievement of the indicators. The evaluation and analysis are mainly divided into four dimensions: project completion rate, the method of operating the project, the influence and cooperation of the employee to their colleagues and the team, and the technical quality of the whole project. Promoting evaluation is also a comprehensive evaluation based on these four dimensions.

In addition to the employee evaluation system and promotion path, Mr. Shi also shared the daily situation of engineers working in the Meta. In Meta, engineers can switch between different project teams. Next, Mr. Shi Shared the working status of employees from other departments. This talk provided audiences with a better understanding of the daily working status in the Meta.

In the question-and-answer session, the audiences are very active in asking online and offline questions. Mr. Shi answered those questions patiently. They discussed different topics, including Metaverse, enterprise daily works, and the language of programming. They have a great and positive atmosphere.
