The symposium was conducted in the mode of mutual communication and Q & A between teachers and students. First of all, Dr. Wu delivered the opening remarks of the symposium. He highlighted that FYP is the task that every student must complete before graduation. FYP is the summary of four years’ college study by applying the knowledge and skills learned. The skills learned in FYP will not only be used in academic research, but also could enhance the logical thinking and problem-solving capability.

Then, three teachers answered FYP related questions raised by students in a relaxed and interactive manner. For example, Year 3 finance major student asked how to choose the topic of FYP? In this regard, Dr. Wu answered that he should try to choose a topic based on his interest and in the area of his major; this will need to spend time for reading a large number of literature; Dr. Xiao suggested that he should determine which direction he is interested in, and make good use of search engines to further refine the direction for topic selection ; Dr. Xin indicated that he could search the articles in the top journals in his major and, while reading the articles, think about which articles are valuable for future reference.

The Lecture

During the symposium, other students also raised questions about how to collect FYP data, how to judge whether the FYP topic is valuable, how to arrange the timeline of completing FYP process, when to start preparing FYP, etc. The three teachers also gave detailed answers.
