BNBU Accounting Students Make History at 2025 CGMA Global Business Challenge

June 6, 2025 – Team Strive, led by Captain FU Lingfan (Year 3 Accounting) alongside other Year 3 Accounting students HUANG Yiyi, LIU Hanxiang, and MAI Ziqi, represents Beijing Normal Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) at the CGMA Global Business Challenge (GBC) and achieved three historic milestones:

Debut Victory: Secured first place in the national semi-finals as first-time participants, earning the sole qualification to advance to the national finals.

National Final: Claimed the First Prize Award in the national finals as a rookie team.

International Breakthrough: Earned BNBU’s first-ever qualification to represent mainland Chinese universities in the North Asia International Finals.

During the competition judging session, Team Strive demonstrated exceptional professional competence, earning high acclaim from the judging panel. Ms. Tianqing WANG, Audit Partner at EY, remarked during the semifinal technical evaluation: "The team exhibited systematic professional presentation skills and structured thinking capabilities in their case demonstration That is truly impressive."

Ms. Lihua WANG, Financial Director at Accenture Technology, particularly emphasized in the final judging report: "Ms. Yiyi HUANG displayed outstanding professional acumen in business analysis and project evaluation. Her proposed solutions successfully integrated theoretical rigour with practical applicability, demonstrating professional insight that surpasses peers in the field."

Organized by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA & CIMA), the CGMA GBC is a premier global case competition. This year’s event featured elite teams from top universities, including Xiamen University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, CUHK-Shenzhen, Wuhan University, and the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

Under the dedicated guidance of Dr. Brian Lam and Dr. Meng He, as well as the Chief Advisor Dr. Wingsun Li, Team Strive achieved outstanding results. "From the national semi-finals to the North Asia final, each step we take sets new records for BNBU," stated team leader Lingfan FU.

"We often worked past midnight with our advisor, Dr. Brian Lam, refining the business solution over a dozen times," Yiyi HUANG recalled with a smile. "But seeing ‘BNBU shine on the national stage made it all worthwhile."

Prof. LIU Weimin, Head of Accounting Department, remarked: "Team Strive's remarkable debut performance - earning direct qualification to the North Asia Finals - demonstrates both their exceptional capabilities and the strength of our internationally-focused accounting curriculum. The North Asia Finals will gather top teams from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, and Mongolia. Let us look forward to their outstanding performance in the North Asia Grand Finals on June 8, 2025.
