Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the hotel business industry in China has been affected significantly. The whole domestic tourism market and business environment has been altered and strategies developed before the outbreak are not relevant anymore. Despite the negative effects of the pandemic on the hotel and tourism industry, new opportunities have risen. From that perspective, Alexander Chalk, General Manager of the ultra-luxury hotel St. Regis Zhuhai, will give an insight into the Marriot International future strategy in China. He will present an overview of the recovery plan that he and his team will follow at the St. Regis Zhuhai as well as the alignment strategy with other sister hotels in China under the Marriott`s umbrella.

About the Speaker

Mr. Alexander Chalk is the General Manager of the St Regis Zhuhai since September 3rd 2020. In his role, Alexander is responsible for managing the ultra-luxury property. Hailing originally from London U.K, Alexander, a seasoned hotelier, has more than 20 years of global luxury hospitality experience. From his culinary roots within some of the world’s finest restaurants to his time working within Marriott International at EDITION hotels, W Hotels and the Ritz Carlton, Alexander has been committed to providing elevated guest experience and sublime luxury standards. Alexander worked across the globe in North America, Australasia, Europe and the Middle East where he then transitioned to be pre-opening Food and beverage Director for the Abu Dhabi EDITION. After a successful opening Alexander moved to the flagship W in Asia, W Shanghai the bund, as Hotel Manager. Alexander is a graduate of Brighton University and holds an MBA from Hertfordshire University.
