About the Speaker

Dr. Shi graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a Ph.D. degree in Economics in 2010. Before that, he received his master degree from the Ohio State University and bachelor degree from Peking University. Dr. Shi specializes in the fields of economic growth, development and Chinese economy. He has published papers in academic journals such as World Development, Fiscal Studies and Academic Monthly. He has also published a book and a book chapter in an edited volume. As the principal investigator, he has completed a project sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Before joining UIC, he was an associate professor of economics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and taught microeconomics, macroeconomics, and optimization methods in economics at various levels.
