Abstract

President Xi Jinping pledged to the world the dual carbon policy for China in 2020. This policy pledges that China will achieve peak carbon in 2030, and carbon neutrality in 2060 which is ground breaking and noteworthy for the world. Consequently, the energy industry has begun to transform with firms making significant actions to dual carbon policy. We explore the initial transformation paths of energy companies and the regulation effects on green energy companies’ carbon emissions. The paper uses Paired T-test to indicate the actions that energy companies take for green transformation. Moreover, the paper conducts a Difference-in-Difference analysis to examine how the carbon emissions of non-green energy companies change toward the dual carbon declaration. The main results show that energy companies are significant in debt and equity financing, innovation, and equity investment. Regarding the policy effects on non-green energy companies, the result indicates that the dual carbon declaration significantly reduces the carbon emissions intensity of non-green energy companies.
