DBM Experience Sharing Forum on Top Journal Publication


In order to stimulate research and encourage quality publications, DBM held an Experience Sharing Forum on Top Journal Publication at DBM Conference Room (T1-302-R1) on December 16, 2020. Professor Wilson Li, Dr Tao Huang, Dr. May Wang, Dr. Don Chai and Dr. Chun Fong Lei shared their experiences in publishing in the top / top field journals in their areas. Prof. Wenbin Liu, Dean of DBM, attended the forum and encouraged faculty members to publish more in top journals. This seminar attracted over 20 participants.

Prof. Wilson Li, Professor of AE Programme discussed five key elements that contribute to a good paper, i.e. Topic, Theory, Research Method, Presentation and Addressing Comments from Editor and Reviewers. He offered suggestions on the selection of significant topics, how to follow mainstream theories, and adopt strong research methods. He emphasized on the importance of using appropriate style, format and language to present the paper and adopting a positive attitude towards’ comments made by the editor and reviewers.

Dr. Tao Huang, Associate Professor of FIN Programme shared his experience and thoughts on publishing in top-tier journals in Finance. He emphasized on the importance of attending research conferences and building up a good research team.

Dr. May Wang, Associate Professor and MMGT Programme Director delivered her presentation on three areas: Theoretical Contributions, Practical and Social Impacts, and Science as a Conversation. She shared her experience in publishing in the top journals in the MIS field. She suggested to visit journals’ websites to learn about their requirements and attend reviewer development workshop organized by journals to better understand the paper review process from reviewers’ perspective.

Dr. Don Chai, Assistant Professor and Acting EBIS Programme Director shared his experience and strategies for publishing in top-field journals in his area.

Dr. Chun Fong Lei, Assistant Professor of EBIS Programme discussed the interactions among authors, collaborators, and reviewers in the process of journal publication. He provided practical suggestions on how to communicate with the co-authors and reviewers so as to make a good publication.

Prof. Wenbin Liu thanked the speakers’ contributions to this forum. He shared some of his thoughts and encouraged faculty members to publish more outputs in the top journals. In the Q & A session, participants had further discussions with the speakers.
