On February 23, 2022, the career development lecture on postgraduate education and future career planning was held. Prof. Huang Xu, the chair professor and associate dean of the Division of Business Administration of Hong Kong Baptist University was invited to share some vivid suggestions for UIC students’ future career plans and master major direction selection. Starting from the current hot topic of Open AI news, the purpose is to introduce the development of science and technology frontiers facing the world and how the business management students should change with the times at present. Dr. Mi Lin, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Business Management delivered an opening speech and introduced the guest speaker to the present teachers and students. At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Huang discussed with students about the AI chat program ChatGPT and the MOSS intelligent dialogue model recently studied by Fudan University research team, aimed to make the students had a brief thinking whether the development of scientific and technological intelligence will affect the scientific research filed and related career changes. Besides that, he also introduced the main aspects of the new subversive technology facing the world’s leading edge of science, life changing and global business and economy. In the meanwhile, Prof. Huang stressed that the updated digital technology, the building collaborative ecosystem, the optimizing vocational education and critical thinking could have a significant impact on the transformation of Chinese education and self-skills development in the near future. During the lectures and discussions, it provided students with newly ideas and more alternative directions for their future study and career choices.

With regard to the plan for the master and PhD study, Prof. Huang gave an account of his fruitful experience of studying abroad and briefly introduced the abilities and requirements by students at different stages of undergraduate, master and PhD studies. He emphasized that the undergraduate study is the accumulation and understanding of basic major knowledge. While in the master's stage, more attention should be paid to the application of theory and the training of critical thinking ability, some different majors can also be selected according to the times and environment needed or self personal interests. But the most important thing is the change of thinking, which requires students to cultivate the long-term and forward-looking thinking of scholars. And then, students are required to integrate their knowledge with the current technology and create knowledge to become a valuable scholar for the scientific research at the deeper level.

He patiently introduced the enrollment and employment environment of Hong Kong and encouraged them to choose some various majors to cultivate their thinking and expand their horizons on postgraduate study, which is the most meaningful thing is to see the different world.
