Minor Programme in Management of Human Resources (MHR)


The management of human resource is a vital component of any set of key organizational success factors, regardless of industry. Our Minor Programme in MHR engages our students in the search for effective HR policies and practices that contribute to improving organisational effectiveness and business results. A firm grasp of such knowledge will enable our students to understand how to facilitate positive interactions in the workplace and how to lead people and teams to maximize their professional potential and meet changing business needs.



The Minor Programme in MHR is designed to provide students in non-MHR majors a comprehensive understanding of the theories and practices in human resource management, to complement the knowledge of their major field of studies. Whether you are majoring in media arts, journalism, applied psychology - and everything in between our Minor in MHR will boost your career by providing you a valuable toolkit that sets you apart from your peers.




Programme Aims , Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this minor programme, students will be equipped with a requisite dose of HR  knowledge, analytical techniques and interpersonal skills necessary for them to navigate management challenges such as employee relations and engagement in a variety of organizational settings, and to cogitate organizational ideas, concepts and principles that inform strategic and long-term decision making.


Programme Requirements

The curriculum of our MHR Minor Programme is designed to build a solid foundation for students in preparation for high-level positions in a variety of managerial roles. In order to declare a minor in business, students must have a major at UIC other than MHR. MHR minors are also required to

(a) complete 15 units in accordance with the stipulated programme structure; and

(b) attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all the 5 courses to be completed.


Curriculum Structure

The Minor Programme in MHR consists of 1 required course and 4 elective courses, 2 from each of the two lists of Electives Courses (Group A and Group B) below.


Required Course (3 Units):

The following compulsory course, Human Resource Management, is the foundation course for all other MHR courses, and thus, all MHR minors are required take this course before they can proceed further with the minor programme.

Elective Courses (Group A): (6 units)

Elective courses (Group A) include major required courses that cover the key aspects of the human resource function. MHR minors may select two courses from the list to build a firm base in HR knowledge.

Elective Courses (Group B): (6 units)

Elective courses (Group B) allow students to expand their understanding of specialty areas in the field of HR. MHR minors may enroll in any two of this list that may be offered in different semesters.
