Dreaming bigger with international perspectives
UIC also provides opportunities for students to study abroad. Our broad-based curriculum accords the flexibility for our MHR students to transfer credits gained from overseas exchange programmes to satisfy UIC requirements. Prior to a student's departure, the consent of the Programme Director is required for courses to be taken in a foreign study programme. If you are exploring studying abroad opportunities, you have to meet with an academic advisor as soon as possible.

Westfield State University exchange program, the first one from the right
" I was the only Chinese exchange student who went to Westfield State University that semester. Some people might regard it as a challenge, but I thought I was lucky because it allowed me to fully enhance my English skills in all aspects of basic necessities of life, such as clothing, food, housing and transportation. Not only did I get to know good friends from all over the world, but also I took courses that were not offered in UIC. Becoming an exchange student for one semester is definitely a decision I would never regret."

" At the suggestion of the Dean, I participated in the Nanyang Technology University (NTU) Summer project organized by UIC. We got to know more about our own strengths as we learned from theirs. The NTU professors' insights into organizations have also given us new insights into management."

LIU Jialiang (2020)
Liu Jialiang, from the Management of Human Resources Programme, has been spending his Winter and Summer vacations wisely: participating in an internship, volunteering overseas as well as taking part in exchange study programmes in several countries and regions, including South Korea, Indonesia, Austria, Canada and Hong Kong. Jialiang's rich overseas experience has broadened his international horizon and helped him successfully be admitted to the University of Toronto where he has studied for a Master's in Industrial Relations and Human Resources.
During the summer of his freshman year, Liu Jialiang started his first trip abroad as a volunteer when he went to Bali to teach the local children Chinese. In every subsequent break, Liu Jialiang did not just relax; he successively participated in courses provided by Hong Kong Baptist University and University of British Columbia, and joined study tours to the University of Vienna, Korea University and Yonsei University. In addition to enriching his knowledge, Liu Jialiang also learned about the culture and education models of different countries, and thus established his goals for further studies early.

It was during the Winter vacation in his sophomore year when Liu Jialiang applied for a Winter Study Tour in culture and art at the University of Vienna. In the Summer break of his junior year, Liu Jialiang participated in a Summer Course at University of British Columbia (UBC) organised by UIC International Development Office (IDO) and spent an unforgettable Summer in Canada. Through these programmes, Liu Jialiang consolidated his knowledge in strategic management and entrepreneurship. He managed to get a recommendation letter from a professor there and took an IELTS test in Vancouver. The above has all helped his application for graduate studies.

Liu Jialiang believes that it is the acquisition of an international vision and the enhancement of his cognitive ability, nurtured in the English teaching environment of UIC that has given him the advantages over others when studying abroad. He in particular treasured the close teacher-student relationships that he had cultivated at UIC.
