Event Review: DBM Reading Week Lecture Series

From April 6 to April 8, 2022, DBM organized a series of lectures for the Reading Week, which enriched students' learning experience.

Mr. Shi Yonghong, Meta (Facebook) Software Engineer, shared the positions, evaluations, promotion paths, and development paths in U.S. high-tech companies with detailed practical examples. Lecture 2Application prospect of machine learning and data science in biomedicine and cancer treatment

Dr. Wan Shibiao Bioinformatics Research Scientist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, presented SHARP, an ensemble random projection-based algorithm,and introduced its advantages and prospects in large-scale single-cell data analysis. Lecture 3Financial related further education and career planning

Dr. Minyu Wu, FIN Programme Director; Dr. Lei Zhao, FIN Programme Assistant Professor and Mr. Drake Keyang ZHOU, FIN programme Assistant Instructor I, answered students' questions about further education and career planning with detailed examples. Lecture 4The mathematical mechanics of customer building in the digital economy

Professor Yang Xiaoguang, Professor in Institute of Systems Science, Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences used the case of Ant Forest to explain the key elements of the digital economy, and two numerical models were used to reveal the logical mechanisms behind the customer building mode. Lecture 5Career Personality Test - Business Model Canvas - Career Path for Accounting

Dr. Anthony Liu, ACCT Programme Director, introduced the Career Personality Test and Business Model Canvas to students based on his own case study, which were two effective tools for planning future career development. Lecture 6Make good use of FYP: FYP as an effective tool for further studies and employment

Dr. Mingyu Wu, FIN Program Director, Dr. He Xiao, FIN Programme Assistant Professor, and Dr. Elaine Xin, FIN Programme Assistant Professor, answered FYP related questions raised by students with detailed examples. Lecture 7: AE experience sharing session

Four outstanding senior students from the Applied Economics programme (Ms. Yuxing YAO, Mr. Lei QIN, Mr. Yipeng CHEN, and Mr. Ruijian WANG) shared experience in GMAT and IELTS preparation, four-year college planning, Internet internship and employment, student organization experience and other aspects. Ms. Lin Shijing, the investment director of CRRC shared her work experience in auditing, investment and investment banking, and gave a detailed introduction to the related business of investment banking, auditing and securities, the current industrial challenges and opportunities, and the future trend as well.
