Learning support activities

Learning Resources

Teaching will be conducted using a wide array of methods such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and e-learning.

Student learning however happens not only during the in-class contact hours, but also the rest of out-of-class time. Students are expected to spend most of their time in independent learning, which is essential for them to develop their research and

analytical skills. The Learning Resource Centre provides an enviable wealth of resources in both the English and Chinese

media to support your studies: it is the central place where you can find the best, invaluable and most up-to-date information and resources for all the courses and programmes at UIC.

Student Learning Support Scheme (SLSS)

The Programme offers SLSS classes to provide extra support to needy students. Such class are led by designated staff at

the Instructor ranks, who design and tailor teaching materials to facilitate student learning in small groups. Students are

invited at the beginning of each semester to enroll in the SLSS classes relevant to their courses.

Student Organisation

Students are encouraged to get involved with student organizations such as the MHR Academic Society (MHRAS). It is a

student-run organisation that aims to create an environment that stimulates interest in human resource management, build

professional skills and connect students with an interest in interacting with people. The goal of the MHRAS is to provide

learning and hands-on opportunities for students across campus to hone their leadership and management skills. The MHRAS strives to achieve this by hosting events for the MHR students to interact with one another and with students of other

academic programmes and student clubs. It works towards professional development and promoting co-curricular learning

through organizing team building activities, networking sessions, and service learning opportunities. It seeks to further

develop student's leadership, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

Since its inception in Fall 2009, our MHRAS has strived to foster a sense of belonging among MHR students and led many

successful team building projects and social activities. As a member of our MHRSC on campus, individuals will have multiple opportunities, including: discussion and sharing meetings led by our alumni who have gone on to graduate programmes and/or worked at premier corporations and consulting firms, participation in service learning projects, and discounts on MHR

souvenirs and their in-house HR magazines.

MHRAS initiates resume-building projects, offers chances for students to get real-world HR and leadership experience that

develops their personal competencies. It welcomes all MHR majors and those interested in service learning to join. In

addition, it provides students with the opportunity to build lasting connections with other student members and to network

with other student groups in UIC, giving them and the participants an advantage when applying for jobs and internships.

If you are looking for a way to gain professional experience, learn more about the diverse dimensions of business and HR

management, and meet other great business students, look no further!

Service Learning

The Service Learning Project (SLP) was founded on the belief that given the resources and training, students can make a

meaningful impact on the community and achieve their career goals.  SLP gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on

experience in providing strategy consulting services to UIC fellow students, local businesses, and corporations. Elected

stewards of the MHRAS and participants in club activities are to plan and lead organizational projects, work within a

functioning organization, and manage real groups, while still having the cushion of classmates and professors to bounce

ideas off of or ask questions to.
